About the project
We were contacted by a couple who wanted to update their newly purchased lakefront property with a new look and functionality. The old basement was outdated, poorly laid out and designed.
The new design had to incorporate more light, better layout for entertaining and working from home and greater functionality for use. The old basement had false ceiling panels above the kitchen and hallway, which gave the illusion of more commercial space than residential. We removed the panels, installed a hard textured ceiling, can lighting and decorative columns to transform the space.
The original kitchenette featured a wrap around island that really separated the space from the rest of the basement. We removed the island, ran waterproof luxury vinyl planking throughout to tie the space together and added custom dark mocha cabinets to provide a rich warm feeling to the room.
The bathroom was remodeled as well to provide easier access to the shower and storage closet. We took out the old fiberglass tub/shower and installed a custom build walk-in shower with glass door and panel to provide more light and a larger feel. A custom vanity to match the kitchenette ties the space together nicely.
The barn doors over the storage closet complete the project and allow for storage that is both simple and stylish. A large 5 foot opening allows for easy access to beach accessories and entertainment.
It is now the go-to place in the house for entertaining and enjoyment; both inside and out.
